To everyone who fuelled the walk

Every coffee bought a hot meal, dry socks, a charged battery, another day of filming. Hvala vam — this one's yours too.

Why I'm doing this

Hi, I'm Adin

I'm from Travnik, right in the middle of Bosnia & Herzegovina. I grew up wandering these hills and swimming these rivers, and one thing has always stayed with me: hardly anyone out there knows how beautiful this little country really is.

So instead of just talking about it, I walked it. Along the way I filmed everything, from the sunrise over a ridge to the stranger who waved me in for coffee, and cut it into a short film for the day after (a little longer when there was no signal). No polish, no crew, just the country I love, exactly as I found it.

If you've never been to Bosnia & Herzegovina, I hope this makes you book the trip. And if it's home, wherever you're reading from, I hope it brings a bit of it back.

The final numbers

The whole walk, step by step

The walk is complete — west to east across Bosnia & Herzegovina. Here's the whole thing: every kilometre walked and every metre climbed.

The walk is done, but two things are still coming: the BHRT documentary and a Via Dinarica White Trail guide with the full GPS track. Leave your email and I'll send one short note when each goes live. No spam, and you can leave whenever.

The route

The wildest line across Bosnia & Herzegovina

The path has a name, the Via Dinarica White Trail. To me it's the finest way to cross the country on foot, west to east, over its highest peaks and past lakes most people never see.

01

≈ 345 km, mostly on foot

From one edge of the country to the other, mostly far from any road, through remote peaks and quiet villages where the kettle is always on. A couple of stretches I covered by road.

02

≈ 13,700 m of climbing

Up and down, ridge after ridge. Add it together and it's about one and a half Everests from sea level.

03

Bosnia's rooftop

Vran, Čvrsnica, Prenj, Bjelašnica, Visočica, Treskavica, Zelengora, Maglić. The big limestone giants, one summit after another.

04

Maglić · 2,386 m

The highest peak in the country. It stands over Sutjeska and Perućica, one of the last primeval forests in Europe.

05

Wild and remote

Whole days without a road or another person, just ridgelines, old beech forest and the odd shepherd's hut. When a glacial lake does turn up, it's cold and clean enough to drink straight from.

06

Why I'm doing this

To show you that Bosnia & Herzegovina is one of the wildest and kindest corners of Europe, and that you really should come see it for yourself.

The journey

First the river, now the mountains

01

First, the river

Before the mountains came the water. I put a kayak in at Glavatičevo, near Konjic, and paddled the Neretva alone, sleeping on the banks, drifting through canyons and turquoise pools, all the way to the sea at Neum. Same idea as this walk: show people what's here. See the river journey ↓

Then, the mountains

The second chapter was on foot and solo. I set off on 23 August 2026 and walked west to east along the highest peaks, everything I needed on my back and a place to sleep wherever the day ended, until I reached the far side on 10 September. A satellite ping let you follow every kilometre. The mountains and valleys were the draw, but it's the people who kept inviting a stranger in for coffee that I'll remember most.

The Neretva

Glavatičevo → the sea at Neum

The Neretva is the river I love most: emerald-green, ice-cold, carving through canyons hardly anyone gets to see. Last summer I paddled it alone from Glavatičevo, near Konjic, past Mostar and down the valley to the sea at Neum. Days on the water, nights on the gravel banks, a camera zipped into a dry-bag. Here it is now, in two films, tracing the line it cuts across the country.

Why it matters

I had a couple of partners who believed in the project, but there was no big production behind this and nothing to sell. I did it to make people fall for Bosnia & Herzegovina, its mountains, its rivers and the people who live among them, and to give Bosnians far from home a piece of it back.

Every coffee on Ko-fi kept me out there a little longer: a hot meal, a charged battery, a dry pair of socks, another day of filming. The walk is done, but the work isn't — the documentary and the trail guide are next, and a coffee still helps get them made.

What it leaves behind: the full GPS track of the whole route for anyone who wants to walk it, and a free library of films about this region for anyone who wants to watch.

🇧🇦 Paying from Bosnia? On Ko-fi's billing step, if the phone prefix shows +44, tap the flag and re-select Bosnia — the +387 code and postcode will then save.
